This is Nevaeh! Nevaeh is 5 years old she has Down Syndrome and severe Autism. Nevaeh is nonverbal and is just starting to walk. Nevaeh started on Haleigh's Hope 3 months ago. Since that time Nevaeh has been engaged in the world, paying attention to what is going on around her, playing with toys, starting to verbalize and say a few words on a regular basis, learning new signs and using them, showing her personality, being cooperative and willing to learn and try things that may be hard for her including eating from a plate!
Nevaeh has been receiving multiple therapies since birth and has shown little progress although her therapists have done and still do a great job! About 2 1/2 months ago Nevaeh began to walk, just weeks after starting Haleigh's Hope! Today she is getting more and more sure of herself and is walking all over! For 5 years her therapists and myself have tried everything to get her to walk and all she needed was a boost from Haleigh's Hope!
Jack turned 16 in October. He is the sweetest, most gentle and kind young man you’d ever meet. He loves to laugh and make others laugh and his hugs are always heart-warming and plentiful. Along with having high functioning Autism he also has Epilepsy. He has been through more than most kids his age. He has been on 10 different anti-seizure medications, most we’ve had to stop because of negative side effects. Some caused him spine and head pain (viral meningitis is a “side effect” in the medication Lamictal), some behavior issues and agitation (we are currently experiencing from Vimpat and saw that on Keppra, too). It’s all incredibly hard for him and us considering he’s such a sweet kid. Mostly we’ve had to stop medications because they just do-not-work! The cost for most of these medications has been over $500 for a 30-day supply and that is after discounts and insurance. Also having high functioning Autism, we know medical cannabis greatly helps speech and communication skills in ways no other therapy or medication can.
Everyone who suffers greatly deserves to have access to a plant that was put here on earth for a reason. It is our hope that one day Iowans get access they so deserve. It is our biggest hope that our son can drive and be completely independent!
